Phase-shifted full bridge (PSFB) delays one bridge leg relative to the other to control power while attempting ZVS on leading and lagging legs. Industrial WPT at higher power sometimes adopts PSFB or related variants for controlled gain into the resonant tank.
Light load often loses lagging-leg ZVS — auxiliary circuits or mode changes address that region.
01Operating regions
- Heavy load: good ZVS on both legs with manageable circulating energy.
- Medium load: tune dead time and magnetizing current for transitions.
- Light load: add burst mode or alternate topology behavior to limit loss.
02Tank interaction
PSFB output is a modulated square wave rich in harmonics — the WPT tank selects fundamental behavior but harmonic content affects loss. Co-design filter or resonant network with phase-shift modulation limits.
03Implementation
- Symmetric layout for leg inductance balance.
- Current transformers or shunt sensing for per-leg diagnostics.
- Validate ZVS with varying DC bus from PFC regulation.
