ZCS
Engineering reference on ZCS for wireless power system design, integration, and deployment.
6 minArticle 14/16Resonant WPT
Zero-current switching (ZCS) turns a device when its current is near zero, minimizing current–voltage overlap at the switching instant. Some resonant topologies and secondary synchronous rectifiers pursue ZCS; primary bridges in WPT more often target ZVS for voltage-fed full bridges with device capacitances.
01Where ZCS shows up
- Current-fed or certain resonant converter families.
- Synchronous rectifier timing on the receiver.
- Auxiliary soft-switching cells in hybrid designs.
02ZCS vs ZVS mindset
Do not treat ZCS as a synonym for “efficient resonant charger.” Ask which device, which edge (turn-on vs turn-off), and which operating corner. A dock can be ZVS on the primary inverter and near-ZCS on the rectifier — that combination is common and healthy when timed correctly.
